New Race Date

Jubilee race has now been rescheduled for July, 12. Which is cool, but a challenge for me now since the Jubilee trail run is on the 11th. No sweat though. The heart of my race season is starting up and races of different disciplines on back to back days will be great training for me. I'll get to do it again in August with the Swamp Dog Classic trail run and the Black Partridge mtb race. Since I've been planning on the double in one day at the end of September, this will be good for me. I've looked at what I had scheduled for training the next couple weeks and I don't think I'll change much. I may switch a couple road rides to mtb rides at Jubilee and probably throw in an extra rest day somewhere. Other than that, I'll leave it alone. I'm watching the sky now and just hoping the rain stays away tonight so I can get a trail run in tomorrow at Jubilee on the mtb course.

Jubilee Race Cancelled....More Rain

Well, that sucks. I actually felt good too. Got my loop in yesterday and was feeling like I could put together a solid effort. Then I woke up last night to find that two inches of rain had fallen along with high winds so the race was called off. No word yet on a reschedule, but I will be pissed if we don't have a Jubilee race this year. Fortunately my focus will stay at Jubilee for the trail run on July 11th, CITRA series #3.

2 Days Left

Well, it's the day before the day before. I took it easy as scheduled for the most part. I did go out to Jubilee for some course clearing, but it was really a nature stroll. We'll call it active recovery. I'm not exactly where I wanted to be but I doubt many are with the limited trail riding so far this year. I've felt pretty strong on the road bike so we'll see if it transfers over on Sunday. Tomorrow I'll go out and do one loop on the course and probably do a little bit of trimming. Then it's home and off my feet. Temps are going to be in the upper 70's at race time I suspect, so a little cooler than what we've had as of late. We'll put the new bibs, gloves and socks to the test and see how they work out. I'm off to bed. Gotta get some good sleep in today.

One More Week...Back To Racin'

So here we are, one week out from the Jubillee race. I was hoping to be more prepared by now, but we'll go with what we've got. The key is to just ready myself as best I can this week and be smart. I'm not gonna get any faster this late in the game so its a matter of balancing prepping and staying as fresh as I can. I'm not planning on anything over 90 minutes this week except for a trail sweep/clearing day to help get the course ready. I just ordered a new pair of shorts from Hammer for the race and I'll steadily get the bike cleaned up and tuned for the race.

Howie and I walked the course today removing dead fall from the recent storms and made notes of trouble spots we need to hit before the race. If we stay dry we'll be in good shape. It's gonna be important for a few of us to walk the course this week and do some pruning and grooming to get it ready. In the past, I'd always prided myself with how well our courses had been prepped for the races. This year wont be any different. That's in part to the time that Howie and Betsy have put into it. Between the two of them, a modern miracle has been pulled off in getting the park where it needs to be. Now we just need some help from Mother Nature.

It's an exciting time. I have a lot of races coming up soon. I also should hear something about the bike team at work this week. I want on it so bad and I've waited for a long time to get my chance. Plus, it'll be fun to make money doing two things at once I love to do. Can't really top that!

Just Say No

To overtime. Atleast for the next few weeks. I've got a bulk of my race schedule coming soon and I need to focus on getting back in shape and bike ready. I'm not disapointed that the Jubilee race got pushed back a couple weeks to give me more time to get ready. Instead of the 14th, it'll be on the 28th. I finally got back to work yesterday and did a little over an hour at Indy. I'm actually a little beat up now, but felt good doing it. Just having some races on the horizon has improved my state of mind. Having a four day weekend to rest and refocus didnt hurt either. I'll probably still work some extra 1/2 shifts just to keep honest, but planning on staying away from the crazy hours for awhile.
